About Lee

Lee Daniel is President of KEYSYS, a Birmingham-based software and AI engineering company. With more than two decades of software development and technology leadership experience, Lee has worked across software engineering, cloud systems, automation, and applied AI. Before becoming President in January 2026, he served as KEYSYS Chief Technology Officer for six years.

Lee joined KEYSYS in January 2015 as a Senior Software Engineer, stepped into the CTO role in 2019, and was named President in January 2026. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a Computer Controls specialization from Auburn University, and — years before the current wave of generative AI — was already working on intelligent monitoring systems: he is a co-inventor, listed on the patent record as Stephen Daniel, on U.S. Patent 7,451,003, covering real-time process monitoring, sensor validation, and predictive fault analysis.

As Chief Technology Officer, Lee led KEYSYS' technical standards, guided teams through client engineering challenges across industries, and helped build the engineering culture the company still runs on today across custom software, AI systems, and cloud infrastructure work.

Lee's approach to AI is practical rather than promotional. Under his leadership, KEYSYS has used AI to automate real workflows across accounting, sales, marketing, and engineering — and in his own Birmingham Business Journal writing, he argues AI adoption should be measured by its effect on morale and creative freedom, not headcount reduction alone. He has carried that thinking into Birmingham's technology community as a speaker at Birmingham AI events on production AI and applying AI across the software development lifecycle.

As President, Lee now focuses on execution, alignment, and growth across KEYSYS while continuing to shape how the company builds applied AI systems for clients. He is a three-time Alabama ORBIE nominee and a 2026 Alabama ORBIE Corporate Finalist, recognized alongside the state's other top technology executives.

Recognition

Three-Time Alabama ORBIE Nominee · 2026 Corporate Finalist

Lee has been nominated for the Alabama ORBIE Awards — the state's leading recognition for CIOs and technology executives — in 2022, 2024, and 2026, and was named a 2026 Corporate Finalist in the Up to $300 Million in Annual Revenue category. His ORBIE profile credits him with driving responsible AI adoption, workflow automation, and engineering standards across KEYSYS.

“One of my proudest accomplishments is recently being promoted from CTO to President. This opportunity was made possible by investing in our team and developing a successor from within to step into the CTO role.”

Patent & Technical Work

Method and System of Monitoring, Sensor Validation and Predictive Fault Analysis
U.S. Patent 7,451,003 · Filed March 2004 · Granted November 2008

Lee is one of four named inventors — listed on the patent record as Stephen Daniel — on a patent covering real-time process monitoring, sensor validation, and predictive fault analysis. The work used statistical models of normal process behavior to flag anomalies before they became failures: an early, non-generative form of the intelligent monitoring and applied-AI work KEYSYS builds for clients today.

Named inventors: Daniel Chester, Stephen Daniel, Richard Fickelscherer, Douglas Lenz.

KEYSYS Case Study

Automating 95% of a Blade-Inspection Workflow at Buckman

95% of the inspection & reporting workflow automated

KEYSYS built an AI-driven computer-vision system that replaced a manual microscope-based inspection process with a two-minute automated scan, cutting inspection time while operators kept trusting the results.

“Watching operators swap a 45-minute microscope routine for a two-minute scan and trust the results instantly reminds me why we automate in the first place.”
